Photoshop Tips : How to make the background blurer and look nicer
note: this tip may not work in Element version.


  1. Open the photoshop 6
  2. Open the image
  3. Select the Magic Wand Tool



  4. Type in the tolerance value. You can use any value but make sure the selection does not overlap the lizard.
  5. Click on OK button
  6. Use the Magic Wand Tool to click on the background



  7. You will see some part of the background is selected
  8. Select the Retangular Marquee Tool



  9. Hold down the "Shift" Key (you will see the plus sign) and select the unselected portion in the background



  10. Once you have finished the selection , you should see the background is totally selected



  11. Next is to duplicate the Background layer



  12. Type in the name as "Green Background" for easy reference and click on OK button



  13. You should see the "Green Background" layer is created



  14. Go to Select > Inverse



  15. Click on the "Delete" Key to remove the background
  16. Unselect the selection by go to Select > Deselect



  17. Next is to duplicate the "Green Background" layer



  18. Leave the name as "Green Background copy" layer and click on OK button



  19. You should see the "Green Background copy" layer is created



  20. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur



  21. Type in the Radius as 12 and click on OK button



  22. Select the "Green Background" layer



  23. Go to Select > Load Selection



  24. Click on OK button



  25. Go to Select > Inverse



  26. Select the "Green Background copy" layer



  27. Click on the "Delete" Key
  28. Unselect the selection by go to Select > Deselect



  29. Next is to touch up the lizard
  30. Select the "Background" layer



  31. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask...



  32. Type in the settings as follows:

  33. Amount : 80%
    Radius : 0.8
    Threshold : 0


  34. You have successfully made the background blurer.
